Holistic Coaching

Holistic coaching is my own approach I developed that considers you as a whole person, someone with a mind, a body, and a spirit. Each part of ourselves contributes to how we show up and matters when moving toward being our best self.

What is holistic coaching? Traditional coaching typically focuses on the mind, but we have a whole sensorium available to us that includes our body and our spirit. We even have language for this, even if we don’t realise it. Have you ever had a gut feeling? Do you ever get the sense you like/dislike someone without really knowing them? Have you ever been in a meeting with someone and noticed something didn’t feel right? Those feelings are sensing through your ‘spirit’ or energy self as well as your body, and they provide important information to navigate life and work. We also can talk about our work as a calling or aligned with our purpose, things that are associated with our spirit. Most also know of the impact of bodily wellbeing on our mood, our ability to focus, or a number of other important aspects of living and working. The aim of holistic coaching is to recognise and care for our whole self by bringing all parts of who we are into the coaching space. This is important because the wellbeing of our mind, body and our spirit impacts on how we show up and move through the world.

Why work with me? I have integrated personal study and practice across the mind-body-spirit continuum for more than 30 years. I am skilled in and have a passion for working with individuals to build knowledge and awareness of how we can better know ourselves, heal our bodies and stand in our power.

  • I am an APECS Certified Professional Executive Coach with over 10 years of business coaching experience and have my NTL Organisational Development certification. More importantly, I have worked with leaders for more than 20 years around the world.

  • I have graduate degrees, an MSc in Exercise Physiology from Springfield College and an MSc in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, gaining in depth understanding of how our bodies work. I also have over 30 years of practical experience in the gym.

  • In 2024 I graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Energy Therapy from the Interfulgent Institute. Before this I built a foundation over more than 30 years using other formal learning opportunities, workshops, reading and personal practices in areas such as yoga, meditation, exercise and chakra healing techniques to gain practical understanding of how our minds and spirits intersect with our bodies.

How does holistic coaching work?

  • A first step is to have an intake session during which we will discuss your current connection with your mind, body, and spirit to understand where you are now and how you want to work with me in an integrative way. There is no standard method or program, but I will certainly provide some guidance of how we can work together. I am interested to know you and your needs to best support you, and together we will agree what makes sense for you.

  • We will contract for a particular number of sessions. Each session will be an hour.

  • A typical first session will focus on goals and aspirations, working through what you would like to get out of the holistic coaching experience. We will set the scene and create a framework, but work with whatever comes up along the way.

  • As with coaching for work, in each session we will focus on what you bring into coaching on that day. The difference is that I will check in with you across all the dimensions in a way that makes sense. While business coaching is focused on finding the answers within yourself (your mind), I will offer practical support in the holistic coaching space for your body and spirit wellbeing. If we meet in person we can even spend time using my private purpose built gym and therapy space if you live close enough to me in Southwest Wales or want to travel to meet in person at any time. Most clients I work with our virtual, and that works just as well.

  • As we near the end of our contracted session, we will make plans to continue by contracting for more session or finish coaching.

Coaching for Work

Sometimes we need someone to walk alongside us for awhile to realise our full potential. Coaching provides that kind of direct support and challenge to move beyond obstacles and blocks so you can be your best.

I am an APECS Certified Professional Executive Coach.

Who do I coach? While I am open to coaching any leader or individual, I specialise in working with leaders, aspiring leaders, and individuals who are part of communities of difference (LGBTQ+, women, people of colour, those with disabilities including those who are neurodiverse, elders). I am particularly passionate about helping individuals recognise, honour and embrace their difference, then integrate it as part of their authentic self at work.

What is my coaching approach? I have worked with individuals from around the world, specialising in working with individuals who come from communities of difference. Foundationally, I believe we all have something unique to offer the world, each with our own light to shine. I begin with this concept, working with you to uncover and remember your amazingness. My coaching style and approach can be summarised across a few dimensions:

  • Coaching presence (I am here with you) – foundationally, one of my strengths as a coach is being very present. Safety is important so you can do the work you need to do, so my intention is always to create a scenario where you feel I am walking beside you.

  • Positivity (I believe in you) – I personally live with a very positive mindset, and that shows up strongly in my coaching. While coaching is often about dealing with obstacles or moving beyond barriers or dealing with real or perceived deficiencies, I know it’s important to also bring in positive themes or patterns.

  • Somatics (I trust our bodies to speak truth) – I ground my personal development and my coaching practice in the belief there is connection across the mind-body-spirit continuum. While coaching can often be centred on the mind, I use somatics, sensations in my physical body, in my coaching as an additional means for feedback about what is going on.

  • Use of Self/Gestalt (I impact by being thoughtfully present) – I completed Gestalt training from the London Gestalt Centre that I integrate with my NTL Organisational Development certification to effectively use my presence, knowledge and intuition as a coach. I understand how to effectively ‘use myself’ as a supportive instrument for your development.

  • Challenge (I build trust to move into challenge) – As a coach, I hold up the mirror, which can sometimes be challenging. However, I will always do this with a foundation of trust so challenge, though sometimes hard to hear, will feel safe and useful.
